My Family Tree

Last night, I woke up and noticed that it had been a while since I had found information out about my own relatives. Then something told me to look for my great, great grandparents. I noticed that I did not have their marriage information and then noticed that I didn't know her maiden name. However, that reminded me to go to what I refer to as the Golden nugget: familysearch.org Thanks to https://beta.familysearch.org/  I have found many of my and other families information. This site also helped me to discover that they were married in 1879 and her last name was Powell. There are of course two negro Mattie Powells nearest Meriwether county fitting the description but both are pretty far away 80 and 90 miles or so. So I am still on the hunt but happily so. Update: Found a Mattie Powell and family that match pretty closely.

November 16th Today was fun and sad. My niece Kia Leach's birthday was today so we are all grateful for this but also last year on the exact same date Grandmother Reba went home. My family went out to the gravesite and with it being late almost missed it. I asked them and finally when we were about to leave Jemal remembered almost exactly where they were. I was so grateful. We said a prayer and left but I still feel like she is with me.

Had the best time at the Atlanta Family History Expo! I was only able to attend Saturday's session. Not only did I get an opportunity to meet others who were just as engrossed as I am I met a charming woman who I attempting to help find her lineage. Another highlight was the last speaker of the day who was excellent. Details to come...

I had a great time at Cousin Annette who is by the way my second cousin by way of my father. In other words her mother and my grandmother were sisters.What I love the most is not only is she sweet, has a good memory and beautiful but she is also a breast cancer survivor. She is totally ageless and offered a look into my family's past. For instance I learned that my great-grandfather was quite the ladies' man once his children were grown and had children of their own. Pinkston (Favors) Jones, was widowed by my great grand mother Mary Hall Jones early on. I remember a picture of him with a suit and a handlebar mustache but beyond that my memory is spotty. ( I saw it when I was six or five).  Anyhoo, I pulled his death certificate sometime ago and I noticed it was missing a lot of things.
