She is survived by son, Mr. Amari Wingfield; four grandchildren, mother, Ms. Rose A. Wingfield; father, Mr. Joseph L. Wingfield, Sr. (Deborah); two brothers, Rune Wingfield, Sr., Joseph L. Wingfield, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends. Family and friends assemble 10:45AM at Willie A. Nellie Julia Jennings Freeman, 102, of Athens, died June 13, 2012. Relation: 1st cousin 1x removed of wife of 1st cousin of husband of mother-in-law of 1st cousin of wife of great grandfather Survivors include daughters, Dora Lumpkin, Mildred Billups; sons, Charles, David & Clifton Freeman; granddaughters raised in the home, Gail Freeman Bishop, Sarah Pass; sisters, Mozell Freeman, Annie Ruby Stroud, Geneva Forley, Lula Mae Madden; brothers, Jerry Jennings, Walter Raines; god-grandson, Gregory "Frog" Birks; 29 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-great grandchildren, 3 great-great-great-great grandchildren.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., June 16, 2012 at the Springfield Baptist Church, Athens. Internment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Gardenview Funeral Chapel, Athens, has charge of arrangements.

Obituary for Rosa Parks PARKS, Mother Rosa - Age 96, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 821 E. Court St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Orlando Goodman, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Thursday. Mother Parks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday. Mother Rosa Mae Parks was born September 8, 1915 in Odessadale, Georgia, the daughter of Mose and Frankie Parks. Mother Parks was a longtime resident of Flint. She was a founding member of St. Luke Baptist Church and a dedicated member of the Usher and Mother’s Board. Mother Parks loved going fishing and working in her garden. She lived a full life, complete with laughter and happy memories. Mother Parks will be deeply missed by family and ...

He has published numerous atricles on historical topics as well as several books on Southern history. Among them are "We Have This Heritage": the History of Wilkes County, GA Beginnings to 1860; "No Jubilee": the Story of Confederate Wilkes; "Confederate Imprints": a Bibliography; "Tigers": a Pictorial History of Washington Football; and others. He is currently completing a third work on Wilkes County history which documents the period from 1865 to 1945. This volume is planned for late 1998 publication. Since the earlier Wilkes County books are long out-of-print, reprinting of these works is also being considered. Charlie Smith

Good Family Folks! So finding my great grandfather Charlie Smith has been quite the journey. I found lots of Charlie Smith's in the Oglethorpe/Athens area of Georgia in 1930, but they were all marked single and with the name Charlie, I mean really G-whiz. Being that my paternal side is Jones/Smith, I have found I could literally be related to any and everyone. At first I was under the impression that he died in Athens. My Paternal side (My lovely and sweet aunts) remembers his children fondly and vividly and they knew His name and his living situation. Side step: This situation is different because our grandfather ran away and lived in a shed at the age of 13 after disagreements with his treatment by his stepmother. His mother was by some accounts deceased when he was a young child. (Although, I have theories on that I will share later)Therefore, as you can imagine the relationship had its challenges.
