Alberta Towns celebrates her 106th birthday with loved ones

Mrs. Alberta Downer Towns was honored on her 105th birthday at a birthday celebration at her home Saturday, February 14.
Mrs. Towns was born in Wilkes County on February 14, l910, to Sally and Albert Downer, one of 10 children, five girls and five boys. She and her 97-year-old sister, Annie Laura Downer Porter of Atlanta, are the only surviving siblings.
Mrs. Towns is the mother of seven children, Joe Lewis Towns of Washington, Fred Towns of Washington, D.C., and Evelena Johnson of Buffalo, N.Y.; also, Moses Towns, Leonard Towns, Jeroline Towns, and Annie Pearl Towns, who are deceased.
For her birthday celebration, Mrs. Towns wore a purple and white pantsuit with a white scarf, pink necklace, and silver watch.
Festivities began with an opening prayer by her grandson-in-law, Rev. Otis Strong, pastor of The Tree of Life Worship Center in Washington.
The house was festively decorated with pink, silver, and black butterflies; also, red, yellow, green, blue, and white balloons, and a “Happy Birthday” sign.
Green, white, purple, yellow, and blue circles were embedded in the tablecloth. Centering the table was a white cake with blue, yellow, and green balloons with “Happy 105th Birthday Mother – Love You.” The numeral “105” and five candles were placed at the base of the cake.
Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, baked beans, pasta salad, and potato salad.
Celebrating with Mrs. Towns were her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Lizzie Towns of Washington; also, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and, and great-great-grandchildren.
