https://freedomonthemove.org/ Freedom on the Move is a database of fugitives from North American slavery. With the advent of newspapers in the American colonies, enslavers posted “runaway ads” to try to locate fugitives. Additionally, jailers posted ads describing people they had apprehended in search of the enslavers who claimed the fugitives as property. A database full of possibilities. Freedom on the Move will serve as research aid, a pedagogical tool, and a resource for genealogists. Scholars, students, and citizen historians will be able to use the data produced from the ads in new and creative ways. LINK

We are up to more than 47,000 relatives on our tree!!!!    Surprise! We are up to more than  47,000   relatives on our family tree. I guess anyone who really thinks about it will realize they have more than  47,000   people to which they are related. However, how many of those people have documented evidence, hmmmmm? Well, we do!  Thanks to all of the people family and friends who have helped with stories, pictures, sharing their trees, and resources we are now up to more than  47,000  relatives, documented on the tree with more being added every day. Remember, we are always willing to add, edit and credit so get involved! 

Eugene   McGowan   Jr.   (2nd Cousin, 1 removed) Biography Biography 2 Establishes McGowan Scholarship at Morehouse Dr. Eugene McGowan, Jr., Ph.D., ABPP AGE: 100 • Wilmington Dr. Eugene McGowan Jr., age 100, of Wilmington, DE, departed this life on Monday, July 31, 2017.  He was the son of the late Eugene and Annie (Peek) McGowan and was born on February 15, 1917 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was educated in the public schools of Atlanta and later received his BA degree at Morehouse College, Atlanta and MA and PhD degrees in Psychology at  New York University . He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He taught at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta for five years before serving in the  U.S. Navy  as a Specialist First Class during  World War II . Rosa Nell Howard was born on February 24, 1911, in Wilkes County, Georgia. This Saturday, she'll turn 107-years-old.  Howard was the first born to Caroline and Ebb Smith, and she was the oldest of 13 children. She later moved to New York to work before   moving   back to Athens, Georgia.
