 SMITH, Mrs. Mattie - Age 66, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 1:30PM Saturday, February 28, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2PM, Supt. Lamarr Griggs officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Saturday. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday.   Ms. Mattie B. Smith was born September 23, 1942 in Odessadale, Georgia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar (Rosa) Parks. Mattie was a resident of Flint and a very supportive member of Second Chance Ministries Deliverance Church. She retired, after 30 years of service from the City of Flint where she worked diligently in various positions, retiring as the Loan Portfolio Manager for City of Flint-EDC Loans. Mattie continued her employment working for the Flint Area Enterprise Community as a Financial Analyst for approximately ten years. She enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends.  Ms. Mattie B. Smith leaves to cherish her sweet memories: dear and loving mother, Rosa Mae Parks; 5 sisters, Ms. Virginia Griggs, Ms. Rose Small, Ms. Frances Calvert, Ms. Lela Lovelace and Ms. Ola (Waymon Johnson) Crawford; 2 brothers, Mr. Mack (Wanda) Parks and Mr. Bobby Lee Parks, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special nieces, Ms. Tanga Davis and Ms. Hazel Mobley; special nephew, Anthony Parks; and friends, Nina Poole and Gloria Shaver.  Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Parks; 2 sisters, Mary Parks and Jewel Render; brother, Oscar Parks, Jr and Dewey Parks.; and 2 uncles, John H. Howard and Jake Parks.  The family wishes to express special thanks to doctors and nurses of HurleyMedical Center (9th floor staff) and Avalon Hospice.
