Charter Member of Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated at Morehouse College.
November 11, 1921 marked the birth of the Y-Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. The Founding Fathers of the “Soul” were Dr. Benjamin E. Mays (advisor), Dr. Hiram Gibbs, Dr. William Blocker, and Dr. Claude B. Dansby. These men instilled the cardinal principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, Uplift into the lives of many Morehouse Men.
Morehouse Faculty member and teacher of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Responding to a letter in which his mother informed him of his admission to Morehouse, King explains that Claude B. Dansby, the mathematics professor who accompanied the students to Connecticut, will consult with Dean Brailsford R. Brazeal about the registration of those students who were delayed in getting back to Atlanta from Connecticut.
Dear Mother
I received your letter and was very glad to hear from you.
I was very glad to hear that I can enter Morehouse. I cannot get home until the 15 Because I signed the to leave the 12 and if I leave before the 12 I cannot get my railroad fare and they are also giving us a bonus for about $25.00 if I leave before the 12 I cant get nither of them. I asked Mr. Dansby about entering school late and he said he would see Dean and explain it to him it is a lot of boys here that are entering late. Mr. Dansby is giving some of the boys the Math test here and they wont have to take it when they get there I think I will take it. I will leave here Sept 12 Tues after next and get home the 15 because I am stoping in N. York for about a day.

John Amos Jr. , and family and all of our other fantastic family!
Susie Bryant is Farrel's 1st cousin, 3x removed, Susie married Daniel West, John Amos's great uncle maternally.
Carter Hopkins Temple, and family and all of our other fantastic family!
Carter Temple Jr.
and family and all of our other fantastic family!

and family and all of our other fantastic family!
Orlando DJ Jerry “Disco JR” Smith
and family and all of our other fantastic family!
Well because anyone can claim anything and others may be interested here is how we are linked.
Jerry Smith Jr.'s great grandfather was Charlie Smith of Maxeys, Oglethorpe, Georgia & he was our great grandfather too!

Howard Hewett,
and family and all of our other fantastic family!
and family and all of our other fantastic family!
Well because anyone can claim anything and others may be interested here is how we are linked. Our 5th great grand uncle Nelson Wingfield, had Nubie Wingfield. Nubie married Lucretia Cohen, her niece Kate Cohen married Albert Gladman, whose niece was Ithelene Gladman.
Ithelene Gladman married Moses Brown, whose nephew married Elvin Brown, who married Charlena Fitzhugh who was the mother to ... you guessed it Howard Hewett Jr. It should be noted that we are our relative was the step parent to Howard and his siblings.
Matthew Knowles, and family and all of our other fantastic family!
Well because anyone can claim anything and others may be interested here is how we are linked. Our beautiful grandmother's name was Reba Lockhart (Wingfield). Her father was Tom Lockhart, whose mother was Sallie Ball. Sallie's brother , Sam (sr) had a son named Kendrick whose daughter Georgia had a daughter named Ruby. Ruby married John David Knowles. John's father was of the same name and his father was named John Thomas Knowles whose brother was James "Ike" Knowles.
Now the correlation.....

Gaylesville...and little "Blue Ivy"
- 1900-2012 , Cherokee County, AL, USA submitted to family tree by Dale Orndorf.
The census of 1900 finds Ike and Sarah living in Cedar Springs, Cherokee County. Sometime before 1920 they're located in Gaylesville, by this time they have parented at least 8 children. Their eldest son Taylor (1899-1975) married Girlie Mae Inez Miller (1904-1983), they in turn had at least seven children. Their son Taylor J. Knowles (1922-1987) married Esther Mae Stone (1921-1996) and in 1951 they had a son Matthew.
If you haven't already guessed the celebrity to which we are referring, this next piece of the puzzle should give it away. Matthew married Celestine "Tina" Ann Beyonce.
Now exactly what does that make us to little Ivy? Lord only knows, but our prayers and love goes out to everyone whether we have found our familial link or are still working on it.
I am so glad that you posted this blog. Because I have been trying to find the connection between Mathew Knowles and my family. Sarah Elizabeth Dixon Knowles is my great great aunt Fannie Mae Nicholson

ReplyDeleteHi, my great grandma was Jannie Hamm. My grandma was Phennorris Lane. My great aunt, was Tommie Lee, Phennorris' sister.
ReplyDeleteI am looking to connect the dots to my history. Please contact me..thank you.
Hi. besides expressing appreciation for this blog (Thank you) and acknowledging the fact of the Knowles being extended family (always see them in my searches), I just had to say that I am a PHENORIS AS WELL. As was my mother. She was named after Phenoris Wilkins m. George Grimes (cousin and descendant of Lucinda Morrison and George W. Dye ). Her niece married Elwood Nix of the A.W. Nix family that also has two Phenoris Nix (of famous Nix Funeral Home in Philadelphia). I am excited to see how we are connected and possibly where the name came from.
